さよなら日本

June 8th, 2013

A coulple of months ago I was preparing myself again for another unforgettable experience in one of the most amazing countries in the world, Japan. Over the past 10 weeks I have travelled throughout capturing and documenting the car scene as it unfolds, nothing more, nothing less. Just like my previous trips I have not only caught up with so many friends but have met a whole bunch of new faces who in which I’ll never forget. 2.5 months has lead me from Tochigi Prefecture, just north of Tokyo all the way down to Hiroshima. By car, local and bullet trains, buses, bikes and walking I’ve covered just under 11,000km’s. With this being my fourth trip to Japan since 2010 it only seems to get better and better which is almost too amazing to not only think but to write. With all of that being said I am once again blown away by what the people of this small archipelago have to offer.

Out of all the images I could have chosen for my last post in Japan I chose Asano-Sans RPS13 from Chiba. A lot of images are circulating on the internet, but what people mightn’ understand is the spirit and soul in the car and driver. Standard, aero, NISMO wheels and lowdown. Asano-San drives this to and from events, one of the cleanest cars I’ve seen and one of the hardest drivers witnessed. All the way from Chiba Damashi to Bad Stance in Hiroshima, no trailer, no trucks, just a good attitude and a positive human; what it’s about.

With just under 400gbs of data, roughly 25,000 images and a whole bunch of unprocessed film not only from this year but last year there are some interesting things on the horizon. I am looking forward to getting home and starting some projects that is going to express what I experience in a refreshing context.

After 30+ hours of driving, trains and walking I’m finally back in Tokyo after another 2 unforgettable days spent down south in Hiroshima for the Bad Stance Meet held buy Bad Quality x Review. The day prior to the meet Nakagawa-san and Idekawa-san took us to some of their friends workshops around their home town x

きっずはあとスカイラインでエビスサーキット祭り。This was definitely an afternoon to remember on my last trip to Japan. Spending the Saturday of the Spring Matsuri sitting at the South 南 Course watching girl drifter Rei Shinmi-San all the way from Nagoya, Kansai making the most of the open track as the sun was setting behind the mountains of Ebisu. 6 weeks x

南 エビス サーキット

September 4th, 2012

If you’re a into cars, or into the Japanese car culture I should say you would probably agree with me when I say that nothing can top watching the sun fade behind mountain ranges, watching cars slide some of the best drift circuits in the world.

I’ve seen some pretty interesting driving on the Minami course at Ebisu. Although nothing can compare to the skill that runs through the hands of this driver. Yes, the banged up, rusty, bent, mismatched C33 Laurel. Back in 2010 I was fortunate enough to see this guy drive Ebisu. I believe the car used to be super pristine on 15″ wheels and a full body kit. Nowadays it’s a little different. The car is driven by a Tomei crate SR motor and doesn’t skip a beat! We spent our 1 day at Spring Matsuri walking around the Minami course watching drivers like this and Daigo-San going mental. Can’t wait to get back! x

A huge thanks once again to Shota Mori-San from Tokyo. He specifically organised a day for myself and Park for a group of his close friends to meet up at a parking lot in Utsunomiya on the second last Saturday I was in Japan. It was a mixed group of cars which turned out to be absolutely perfect. From Civics, Accords, Skyline’s and Sunny’s to this slammed Toyota Celsior on a full set of Brabus wheels. These are my favourite shots of the car as it was rolling out of the parking area. Will definitely be posting more of this! x
